A smile that never touched the eyes,
Secrets hidden all by lies.
A wilting rose on window’s sill,
Hid the key to her withering heart.

Sadness and despair crept behind her,
Sapping strength from her by the hour.
Pondering her sanity,
She worries for her humanity.

Days turn to weeks,
Fortnights to years.
Dark things whispering in her mind,
Always bring her to tears.

Her voice, it fades,
Her parents are concerned.
If only they knew,
How much for an end she yearned.

Despite this she fights to smile,
Hiding her pain under every living mile.

It came when she couldn’t smile,
Couldn’t hide the pain.
That day she found the rose,
Along the window pane.

Pack in hand she left,
Tears running free.
“Away,” she whispered,
“To be a stronger me.”

She’d barely finished,
Feeling better but sick,
When she felt someone beside her,
Drop their binder with a click.

She looked up curious, thankful.
The figure sat back, quiet, confident.
Shying from the feeling inside her, she looked away, stifling the start.

With her his hope rest.

She took his hand, and off they rushed.

With her heart she would confide.
More family she had found,
A new string had been tied.

She looked at him,
His eyes alight.
With his hand in hers,
The world felt right.

She thought of the bloom,
Dried and fading in her window.
She let go of the pain,
That had lingered in her room.
